There are hundreds of AI voice, audio, and video tools now, and a depressing number of “reviews” that are really just reworded marketing copy from people who never opened the app. You can’t hear a sample. You can’t see the interface. You can’t tell whether the writer ever generated a single second of audio. That’s the gap this site exists to close.
Who’s Behind This
Hi. I’m Jay and I run AfterMaster from Toronto, Canada.
I’m a creator, not a guru. I got into AI audio tools because I needed them for my own projects, and I quickly got tired of paying for tools that sounded great in the demo and robotic in real life. So I started testing them properly — the same script, the same way, every time — and writing down what I actually found. AfterMaster is where I publish that.
I’m not here to sound like the world’s foremost expert on neural speech synthesis. I’m here to do the thing most review sites skip: actually run the tool, listen with my own ears, and tell you the truth about it — including when the free version is all you need, or when you shouldn’t buy it at all.
Why “AfterMaster”
The name is about what happens after you hit “generate.” Anyone can get an AI tool to spit out a clip. The real question — the one that decides whether your podcast, video, or audiobook is any good — is whether that output actually holds up once it’s mastered, polished, and out in the world. That’s the bar I test everything against.
How I Test (The Part That Makes This Different)
Every tool reviewed on this site is one I’ve personally used. Here’s the promise:
- The same standardized script, every time. I run an identical, deliberately tricky test passage — numbers, a date, audio jargon, a hard-to-pronounce name, and an emotional shift — through every voice tool, so the comparisons are genuinely apples-to-apples.
- You hear the real output. Reviews include the actual audio I generated, embedded right on the page. No “trust me, it sounds good.”
- Real screenshots, real workflow. I show the interface I worked in, not stock images.
- Honest cons, always. If something annoyed me, slowed me down, or quietly burned through credits, I say so.
- Pricing verified, with dates. Plans change constantly, so every review carries a “last tested” date and I re-check the numbers.
- Ratings are never for sale. No company can pay for a better score or a kinder verdict. Full stop.
